Gopal Krishna Agarwal

Gopal Krishna Agarwal is a distinguished Indian politician, economist, and public intellectual, currently serving as the National Spokesperson for Economic Affairs of the Bharatiya Janata Party. Known for his depth of knowledge and measured articulation, he has emerged as one of the most credible voices on India’s economic policy, financial systems, and development priorities.

Academic and Professional Foundation

Shri Agarwal holds a postgraduate degree in Economics and a bachelor’s degree in Commerce. He is a qualified Chartered Accountant, a background that enables him to engage with economic issues not only from a theoretical perspective but also with practical, on-ground understanding of markets, institutions, and enterprise.

His academic training and professional experience together form the foundation of his nuanced approach to economic policy, fiscal governance, and structural reforms.

Political Journey and Policy Leadership

Actively associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party for over two decades, Shri Agarwal has contributed significantly to the formulation, interpretation, and public communication of the party’s economic policies. As National Spokesperson for Economic Affairs, he has been instrumental in presenting complex economic decisions in a manner that is accessible, factual, and rooted in national interest.

He is currently an Independent Director on the Board of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited and serves as Chairman of the Institute of Insolvency Professionals under the Institute of Company Secretaries of India.

In the past, he has served as Independent Director on the Boards of Bank of Baroda, North Eastern Electric Power Company, and the Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs. He has also held leadership roles as National President of the Association of NSE Members of India, Commodity Participants Association, and Depository Participant Association of India. His experience includes serving on SEBI committees related to secondary markets and as a government nominee on key national bodies associated with corporate governance and MSME financial architecture.
